HUNNIC TRIBES, Kidarites. "Bahram Kushan King", circa 350-380. Dinar (Gold, 34 mm, 7.71 g, 12 h), Balkh. BAΓO OAPAYPANO O OZOPKO KOÞANO ÞAYO ('His Majesty, Bahram, Great King of the Kushan' in Bactrian) Bahram I standing front, head to left, wearing a crenellated crown with a globe on top between two broad horizontally-pleated ribbons, sacrificing with his right hand over altar and holding trident in his left hand; to left, trident; to right, tamgha. Rev. BOPZOOANΔO IAZOΔO ('The illustrious God' in Bactrian) Shiva standing facing, holding diadem in his right hand and trident in his left; behind, the bull Nandi, his companion, standing left. ANS Kushan 2423. Cribb, Kidarites, pl. 140, 11. A lovely example with an attractive obverse. Struck from the ususal somewhat worn reverse die and with an edge crack, otherwise, extremely fine.
